Delivering a baby takes a huge toll on your body. While you are in the hospital recovering, you’ll want to choose a postpartum outfit that will help you feel as comfortable as possible.

Sure, you could just wear the hospital gown they provide, but the material isn’t very soft, and it feels more like you are wearing a tent than something comfortable and flattering.

It’s also a very special time of bonding with your baby. You will probably be taking lots of pictures to remember these first moments together. So with that in mind, it doesn’t hurt to look cute too!

When it’s time to pack your hospital bag, use this list as a guide to ensure you will be looking and feeling your best after birth!

Here are 9 things to wear in the hospital after birth, instead of a hospital gown!

1. Nursing dress

If you plan to breastfeed, this soft flowy nursing dress is amazing. It’s so comfortable and allows you to easily access your breasts for feeding on demand.

2. Maternity/ Labor dress

This labor and delivery dress is a bit closer to a hospital gown, but much more stylish and flattering. Many labor nurses have complimented this dress for both its fashionable look and practicality!

3. Slippers

When you have to get up to use the restroom or change the baby, having slippers easily accessible will save you from touching your feet to the cold hospital floor.

4. Warm socks

They usually keep the temperature pretty cold in the hospital! If you are like me, your feet will get cold easily. These wool socks will keep your feet toasty and warm!

5. Non-slip socks

A more simplified option to using both socks and slippers is combined with these non slip socks! The have rubber texture on the bottom of the socks so you can wear them in bed and to walk around the room with out slipping on the tile flooring.

6. Always discreet postpartum underwear

After birth you will bleed a lot down there! The hospital will provide you with big mesh underwear and the biggest maxi pads you’ve probably ever seen. While they do the job fine, I found them to be very uncomfortable and bulky. I am glad I had packed these discreet adult diapers. Not only do they have a cute design, but they fit so nicely and are more simple to change than the mesh underwear and pads.

7. Mommy and baby matching robe and swaddle

These matching robe and swaddle sets serve to keep you warm and looking cute. It’s the perfect look for a photo together with your precious newborn!

8. Flip flops for shower

You might find a shower very refreshing after birth! Using some shower flip flops will be more hygienic than having your bare feet in the hospital shower.

9. Head bands

Your hair is probably going to be a bit messy after birth and that’s okay! You’ve been through a lot and having perfectly styled hair shouldn’t be a priority. These hairbands look adorable and they keep your hair out of your face so you can focus on your little bundle of joy!

What to wear to go home?

Don’t stress about what to wear when coming home from the hospital. Just make sure it is loose-fitting and comfortable. Your uterus is still enlarged from pregnancy, so skip the jeans and don’t expect to wear your pre pregnancy clothes! I personally chose to wear a soft nursing top and some stretchy pajama/ yoga pants for my outfit when coming home from the hospital!

Conclusion

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I wish you the absolute best for your birth and recovery! I hope this list will help you be as comfortable (and cute) as possible while in the hospital.
