Do you want to document your growing belly bump during pregnancy? Create a bump progression collage! It doesn’t have to be complicated and you will cherish the pictures in the end.

Since I had never been pregnant before, I was constantly amazed to see my belly grow! In this post I’ll explain how I took monthly photos of my baby bump and created a bump progression collage to remember how my body grew a beautiful little human!

Let’s go over some important tips for creating you bump progression collage!

How frequently should you take a photo?

Every body grows a little differently. My bump didn’t really show until the second trimester, so I didn’t bother taking a photo for the first three months. That’s also because I am a major procrastinator! But you could totally start from the first month. Some people even take weekly photos, but that was too much commitment for me.

To stay consistent, designate a day for the photo. For example, lets pretend Sundays at the day of the week you have the most time. If you are doing weekly photos, you could take a photo every Sunday afternoon. If you are doing monthly photos, you could designate the first Sunday after every monthly anniversary of pregnancy.

How to take the photo?

No fancy camera is required. My husband just used my iPhone to take the photos. You can enlist the help of your spouse or partner to take the photos.

If no one is available to take the photos for you, you can take them for yourself easily. Just set up your phone on a tripod with a clicker.

How to pose for the photos?

The goal is to show the size of your bump. Position yourself sideways so the photo shows your silhouette. I suggest doing the same or similar pose every time to it’s easier ton see the progression.

What to wear?

Choose an outfit that is:

  • Form fitting: So it shows your belly shape
  • Stretchy: You might be surprised how much your belly (and other parts of the body) grow during pregnancy. Choose something that will continue to will fit you as you grow.
  • High contrast: If your background is light, wear something black or dark colored. If your background is dark, wear some white or light colored.

Any kind of body con maternity dress would be a perfect choice!

The final photo

The final photo can be you holding your precious little one. Typically it is while you baby is a newborn, but as I mentioned earlier, I am a procrastinator! I didn’t get around to taking the last photo until my baby boy was 6 months old. Better late than never though!

Creating the collage

Once you have all your photos, the easiest (and free) way to create your collage is through a site called Canva. Canva is an editing site that allows to to create beautiful designs with photos, text, and other elements. There is a free version or a paid premium version, but for the purposes of this collage, the free version is all you need!

Conclusion

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope this post gave you some helpful insights on how to make your own pregnancy bump progress collage!
